Abstract

The revolutionary potential of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies in conserving and advancing indigenous knowledge systems is examined in this chapter. In the modern world indigenous knowledge – which is frequently transmitted orally and through cultural practices – is at serious risk of eroding especially as technological advancements and globalization change cultural landscapes. In order to preserve these knowledge systems for upcoming generations this chapter looks at the function of 4IR technologies such as blockchain artificial intelligence (AI) and digital archiving tools. The chapter stresses how crucial it is to respect cultural sensitivities integrate indigenous knowledge into the digital age and make sure that digital preservation techniques are consistent with traditional values. It discusses the difficulties and possibilities that digital technologies bring to the development of sustainable culturally relevant and easily accessible platforms for the documentation of indigenous knowledge.
