Abstract

The chapter focuses on implementation of information technologies in energy management of district heating system. It captures the current state of energy management in district heating. The main standards of energy management are described. The specific features of district heating system and the existing tools of energy management in district heating are explored. The chapter studies the existing models, which can be applied in the decision support system for heat energy management. It describes the decision support system “HeatCAM” as a tool of energy management in district heating.

Realization Of Energy Management Through The Implementation Of Energy Management System

There are a variety of EM definitions. It is the judicious and effective use of energy to maximize profits (minimize costs) and enhance competitive positions. Another definition for EM is the strategy of adjusting and optimizing energy, using systems and procedures so as to reduce energy requirements per unit of output while holding constant or reducing total costs of producing the output from these systems (Energy Management and Remote Energy Management, 2015).

To carry out the successful EM within the organisation it is necessary to use the EM standards providing an organisational framework to integrate energy efficiency into the management practices.

ISO 50001:2011 is the most general standard in the field of EM which provides a systematic approach to dealing with energy saving and specifies the requirements of an EM system of any organization. The purpose of this standard is to enable organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy efficiency, use and consumption (ISO 50001:2011(en) Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, 2015). This International Standard carries out according to the scheme which is illustrated in Figure 1.
