Abstract

This chapter examines how Ethiopia's dynamic shift to renewable energy may be shaped by incorporating indigenous knowledge and gender perspectives. The benefits of this transformation have not been spread fairly, with vulnerable indigenous communities—especially women. The interconnections of gender, indigenous knowledge, and digital breakthroughs in renewable energy are examined in this chapter. The difficulties indigenous women encounter in gaining access to and influencing renewable energy technology are examined, as is the contribution of indigenous knowledge to the creation of solutions that are suitable for the given context and cutting-edge digital platforms that make use of indigenous and gender-inclusive methodologies. Collaborative methods for incorporating gender and indigenous perspectives are also covered in this chapter. The chapter ends with policy proposals and strategic interventions based on the knowledge and experiences of indigenous people, especially women, to support a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable renewable energy transition in Ethiopia.
