Abstract

Recycling is becoming increasingly important as the world moves toward sustainability due to resource depletion, climate change, and environmental degradation. World COP28, held in UAE also showed recycling as a major challenge to achieve SDG12. Recycling is a cornerstone of sustainable development, promoting the reuse of materials and waste reduction. However, problems with conventional recycling techniques include low public involvement, contaminated recyclable materials, and inefficient sorting. To overcome these obstacles, intelligent approaches have the potential to be transformative. The accuracy and effectiveness of the recycling process can be improved through the application of state-of-the-art technologies. Advanced and intelligent technologies like AI, ML IoT, etc. are important components for such methods. This chapter emphasized the advanced and smart technologies for waste recycling. The suitability, compatibility with SDGs, live applications and challenging factors in recycling are also described.
