Abstract

The progressive rise of mobile computing devices and wireless networks have created a lot of interest in location-based systems and services. The involvement of internet applications in almost every field has changed our lives. Location-based services are the services provided to mobile users according to their geographic locations. Each user wants to get the service according to his/her own interest. The general user's actions in location-based services are locating, searching, navigating, identification, and checking. The location identification has now become a critical attribute. Today, internet of things in the field of location-based services (LBS) provide services to the mobile users by explore the location depending on the geographical coordinates for their valuable needs. Mobile phones that are equipped with new technologies and supported by the presence and development of broadband mobile data networks have created new opportunities for the processing of location-based applications.

Internet Of Things And Location Based Services

In today’s technological world Location Based Services (LBS) is applicable in the field of Internet of thing (IOT) where services are being provided to the cell phone users depending upon the geographical locations in terms of cardinal axis. At present mobile phones are very well equipped with inbuild features that support new technologies with the ease of advancement in the field of broadband connectivity that provides connectivity and faster rate of data transfer and creates several outstanding opportunities for location-based services usually geographical based information about the device location and persons carrying that device can be retrieved using the users account information. Location Based Services provide valuable information in terms of mobile computing and location tracking

In terms of next generation technology, the advancement in Internet of Things (IOT) plays a crucial and potential role in terms of location-based services. To trace location of any person or device location-based services is essential to relate themselves with geographical axis. As mobile phones are easily affordable to every person due to lower cost and higher features it has increase the level of advancement in terms of features that provide multiple advanced features such as conversation in different languages using voice recognition, social networking like Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber etc. Technological advancement in Geographical Positioning System(GPS) provides essential geographical information like if anybody’s child is carrying mobile phones with him/her having internet connectivity and he/she is out of home and if met with any kind of trouble then one can search him/her using GPS asap is running into his/her devices with which exact location can be traced and can be easily reached to that location without any delay to save your child.

These services provide various innovative ideas and support to the users using smartphones. The general functions in location-based services are locating, searching, navigation, identification and verification. Locating means where the user himself is. Searching means where the other person is. Navigation means to know the various routes. Identification means to ask the properties of a particular location. Verification means to check the accuracy of location by identifying the events happening nearby the particular location. The popularity of the mobile operators like Airtel, Vodaphone, Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNL) based on its capability the implementation of wireless network is increasing day by day at a faster rate.

The general classification LBS is based on the concept of person-oriented and device-oriented services. The person-oriented services are user-oriented services having main idea is to get the position of a person to avail the services easily. He person-oriented services have basically two application designs i.e. push services and pull services. The push services are those services with which user receives the information of his or her where about without requesting for it for example advertising whereas pull services are those services where user actively requests for the information through the application for example “where is the nearest school” and “friend finder”. The device-oriented location-based services are those services which are external to the user where focus is not only to search a person but also to search different objects in different areas.

The major positioning method of location-based services is GNSS that uses trilateration technique. One of the GNSS is NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (El-Rabbany et al, 2002)., developed by U.S Department of Defense, which is widely used these days for mobile phones. This system acts as a service provider that helps to retrieve longitude and latitude of a location.
