Background

Nowadays, the integration of technology into the learning and teaching process has become essential in all fields, including education, as it has been proven to provide meaningful learning to students and “to produce a high-quality human capital equipped with the 21 century skills’’ (Halim & Hashim, 2019, p. 19). In relation to teaching and learning English as a Second Language (ESL), educators have implemented various ways of incorporating technology into the ESL classroom, which positively impacted ESL learners. For example, technology use provides a student-centered learning environment that significantly enhances their critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as promoting effective communication and team building abilities (Mantiri et al., 2019).
