Abstract

At a time when the field of journalism has radically changed, news veterans have opportunities to enter classrooms to marry traditional journalism and history with multi-platform technology and social media. But to be successful, journalist educators must retool themselves and work with a new generation of students who hold up members of the fourth estate, the press, and news media with high regard. Despite challenges, news veterans still have the potential to impact this new generation of journalists because so many college students simply don't know the role and purpose of journalists.

Methodology

The methodology used for this chapter is qualitative and the research design is single case study. Qualitative research methods are avenues of examining a topic to grasp in depth knowledge and understanding for the purpose of engendering fresh theories and ideas (Pratt, & Bonaccio, 2016). These methods commonly scrutinize and decipher patterns in written or recorded information.

Methods of qualitative investigation differ subject to the goals of the investigator and the resources available (Cavalcanti, 2017). Associated with qualitative methodology, is single case study, a research design, that is qualitative research method which looks rigorously at a single or explicit situation (Gammelgaard, 2017).

This design utilizes unstructured interviews and surveillances to comprehend the experience or behavior of people (Vega, 2018). Quantitative single-case study is an experimental design that can be performed with one subject or an intact group considered as a subject.

Qualitative case study methodology offers tools for investigators to inquire about multifaceted phenomena within their contexts. When the qualitative case study is utilized properly, it befalls a valuable manner for research to create theory, assess programs, and create interventions.
