Abstract

Care is essential in the lives of all people, but especially in the upbringing and education of young children. The discourses of care include education and relationships and are central to re-centering care in early care and education (ECE) settings. This chapter outlines the discourses of care and provides suggestions for policymakers, caregivers, and practitioners on re-centering care in ECE. Every child deserves care, and when care is enacted in this multifaceted manner, children grow and learn in healthy and developmentally-appropriate environments.
