Abstract

This chapter examines strategies for designing and implementing inclusive assessments that address the needs of diverse learners in higher education. Traditional assessment techniques like multiple-choice tests and essays are critiqued, recognizing their limitations. Building on the principles of Universal Design for Learning, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and sociocultural theory, this chapter emphasizes the importance of creating equitable, authentic assessments that foster engagement, representation, and growth. Practical strategies for non-traditional assessment, such as portfolios, collaborative projects, and real-world tasks are presented to show how assessment can be transformed to support diverse learners. The challenges and benefits of inclusive authentic assessment will also be discussed. By implementing these approaches, this chapter offers actionable ways for educators to promote equity and success for all students.
