Abstract

The integration of digitalization and artificial intelligence into visual communication design offers new opportunities for educators and students. The ethical and conscious use of these technologies can help shape more skilled and innovative designers. Evaluating how digital tools and AI are included in curricula is key to assessing educational quality. This study analyzes how digitalization and AI are reflected in the curricula of Visual Communication Design departments within Communication Faculties at public and foundation universities in Turkey. Using content analysis, it reviews eight-semester course plans for the 2024–2025 academic year to assess the presence of digitalization and AI themes in theoretical and practical courses. Findings show progress in integration; however, practical courses and AI-based content remain limited. This may negatively impact students' industry readiness. Updating curricula to include digital literacy, data analysis, and AI-supported production, along with creative and critical thinking approaches, is essential for enhancing student competencies.
