Abstract

The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), created by the United Nations in 2015, aims to tackle global level problems in order to end poverty, reduce inequality, promote sustainable consumption and production, combat climate change, preserve oceans and ecosystems, foster innovation, reduce gender disparities, ensure access to clean water and energy. These goals set a vision for sustainable development but require specific regional strategies considering the social-economic, cultural and natural endowment of each region. The study examines regional frameworks coordinating with global SDGs under specific regional circumstances. Every region is analyzed according to their participation of the governments, civil society organizations and the private sector to cope with their specific development issues. The study highlights the progressive enhancements across various sectors including health, education, clean energy, etc. Local communities contribute significantly to realizing SDGs improving the local identity and social capital, which are important for cooperating in spatial development.
