Abstract

The use of AI and drones in aerial applications have come to redefine the whole concept thrown in its numerous diverse aspects. The present chapter aims at understanding the effects of AI incorporation in drone evolution from basic UAVs to highly developed complex systems. Analyses how AI is being applied in drones: computer vision for aerial real-time image analysis, autonomous navigation, edge computing for fast processing of aerial imagery. Identifying the benefits of AI enhanced drones, the chapter reflects on the technical, ethical and legal issues of their use. That deals with constraints in the algorithms, the capacities of the cell batteries as well as handling, managing, and analyzing data; privacy issues together with legal implication. This chapter looks at how such cutting-edge technologies as the swarm intelligence and deep learning can be applied to realise full and total autonomy of the drones. The transformation of the aerial systems market and its potential future development through the examples of AI-based case studies of successful projects and market leaders.
