Abstract

New technologies like ICTs (information and communications technologies) are recognized as key players in building smart applications for IoT. The use of sensors and actuators can efficiently control the whole communication system and will provide application-based solutions for smart applications. ICT provides industry-leading cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies including industrial-grade embedded modules with cloud platforms, long life spans, expert application development assistance, and more. ICT M2M connectivity helps utilities to lower down the operating costs by eliminating the need to deploy and maintain communications infrastructure separately.

Internet Of Things

Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as the most promising technology of 5G communications. This 5G technology looks forward to interconnect trillions of devices around the sphere, IoT is going to play an important role in implementation of numerous applications like smart cities, intelligent transportation services, e-health, smart grids, and many others. All these applications of IoT provide improved quality of experience in everyday life activities. In IoT each and every device need to be connected to its utility gateway directly or indirectly to develop a successful IoT operation era. Consequently, this can be possible if devices have smart sensors equipped on them that will collect the real time data and will forward that to their network operation center for further processing.

Requirement of IoT

IoT uses communication technologies to develop a flawless computing for everywhere. For this, we need to improve energy and communication technologies as they are the main requirements for IoT to work. To successfully operate communications in IoT network has to face many challenges for its successful operation. Many types of communication technologies are developed like cooperative communications, used for large network gains. However, this chapter focuses mainly on how each and every layer of IoT layered architecture will communicate.
