Abstract

This study examines the assessment of theories and techniques utilized by counselors in facilitating career transition (CT) for students with hearing impairments (HI) in secondary schools in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study employs a qualitative research approach to explore the perspectives of 15 secondary school counselors through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to recognize patterns and themes in the interview responses, resulting in a better understanding of the school counselors' perspectives. One of the main themes which emerged from the findings indicates that career counseling and guidance theories and techniques were being used by school counselors in facilitating CT for students with HI in secondary schools. Another theme showed that these counselors are faced with several challenges in their efforts to facilitate CT for students with HI in secondary schools. Improving Nigerian secondary school counselors' educational training and practice orientation may lead to better CT outcomes for students with HI.
