Abstract

Smart cities integrate digital technology and data to improve urban life, streamline city operations, and secure long-term growth. To drastically reduce emissions, cities will need to utilize less energy and make better use of intermittent renewable energy sources. Climate resilience in smart cities reduces climate-related damage and disruption, protects economic activities and lowers recovery costs, preserves ecosystems and biodiversity, protects all community members, particularly vulnerable populations, and promotes sustainable development and resource management. The integration of Smart Cities and Climate Resilience can be accomplished by using data from smart city technologies to guide climate resilience strategies and leveraging smart systems to optimize the use of water, electricity, and other resources under climatic stress. Integrating smart city technology with climate resilience techniques establishes a solid foundation for sustainable and flexible urban development.
