Abstract
This study is an examination of the integration of information, telecommunications, mobile technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology in New York City's (NYC) infrastructure to maximize development and to improve the services provided to residents and their quality of life. Efficiency in service delivery is enhanced through smart technologies, and embracing innovation makes city systems efficient. The study is based on Barlow and Levy-Bencheton's smart cities theory. The research questions concern how the integration of smart technology improves the quality of life for residents and provides economic benefits for the city. The researcher surveyed 425 New York City residents to analyze the impact of smart technology on the city's systems. The findings indicated that 96% of residents experienced positive effects from smart technology on their quality of life. Smart cities have digitalized systems to enhance water supply, transportation, waste management, safety, public awareness, and health service delivery, among other essential services.
TopPurpose Of The Study
The purpose of the study was to provide information about the integration of smart technology in New York City. The implementation of smart technology and the redesign of New York City as a smart city has improved service delivery in the city to ensure the population has a high standard of living (Gassmann, Böhm, & Palmié, 2019). City governments are the leading architects of transforming urban centers into smart cities; therefore, they have the burden of making the lives of city residents more comfortable. City governments realize the importance of taking the needs of its residents seriously and treating them like customers in an effort to retain professional and model residents, which is key to ensuring the sustainability of a city. In all their development plans, city governments must take into consideration the needs of the business community, academic institutions, neighborhood associations, researchers, nongovernment organizations, and residents. Throughout New York City, smart technologies are being implemented to meet the specific needs of the population. The city has opted for intelligent city systems to help improve the operations of city services. The city uses innovative technologies such as AI in creative design to enrich and create a new environmental experience for its residents. The smart city concept is citizen-driven, and all the processes are designed to improve quality of life, in terms of traffic movement, emissions reduction, and beautification (Pérez-Delhoyo, Andújar-Montoya, Mora, & Gilart-Iglesias, 2018). There is sufficient evidence that the governments of many cities, including smart cities, have opted to embrace smart technologies as technology continues to change the way people live.
