Abstract

This chapter begins by explaining the research process and refuting the current dominant Builder's Paradigm established by Zachman in 1987. It then proceeds to elucidate an alternative sociological paradigm for the examination of architecture practice. It brings together the research findings to offer data-based explanations for many of the observed anomalies that continue to plague architecture and have retarded its development. The chapter continues by describing a set of universally applicable attributes of architecture. It then sets contemporary architecture practice in its true organizational and sociological context. The chapter closes by addressing practice in this new context and preparing the ground for the application of a new paradigm.
