Sustainable Development of the Built Environment and Territorial Systematization

Abstract

Territorial systematization and sustainable development are inseparable. Through regulations, territorial systematization is a legal manifestation of society marking specific regions in a territory. Conservation of ecosystems, biodiversity and natural sites are key components of sustainable development. In this sense, territorial systematization can help locate and protect vulnerable ecological areas, preventing urban growth from affecting vital habitats and natural resources. The development of the built environment and the mobility and related utilities infrastructure are the working objectives of the territorial systematization for the implementation of the principles of sustainability. The tolerance of the regional community towards environmental problems such as climate change and natural disasters can be improved through a well-structured territorial systematization based on a set of development rules and strategies harmonized with the needs of the inhabitants. Building accessible and livable cities are priorities for sustainable development as well.
