Abstract

This chapter highlights the challenges faced by older women with disabilities in Nigeria, including stigmatisation, exclusion, and marginalisation, highlighting their human rights and discrimination. This chapter uses intersectionality theory to analyse the challenges older women with disabilities face, focusing on age, gender, disability, and societal factors, to improve policy recommendations. The first part provides a comprehensive overview of disability in women, focusing on its holistic definition in medicine and societal contexts. The necessity of inclusive professional interventions is emphasised in the second part, which examines the relationship between ageing dynamics and disability conditions. The third part discusses social workers' roles, governmental policies, and social support systems to promote inclusion and change cultural norms. The final and concluding part recommends advocating for intersectional approaches in policy-making.
