Abstract

The role of educators in the 21st century has evolved in tandem with the rapid technological advancements that have reshaped our world. Education is no longer confined to traditional classrooms, and teachers must adapt to meet the changing needs and expectations of students. Embracing digital tools, fostering lifelong learning, and staying attuned to students' diverse interests and learning styles are essential for educators to remain effective and competitive. The willingness to embrace innovation and change is pivotal for educators to guide students towards a future where knowledge, adaptability, and critical thinking are key to success. This chapter explains what the changes in the role of a teacher are, and how the teaching methods and educational organizations have also evolved over centuries. The chapter also displays what kind of changes are to be made by teachers, supported by some real-time examples that the author has led in her two decades of academic experience. This chapter will be relevant to all teachers and academic leaders who want to update their academic ecosystem.

Introduction

Background Information on the Topic

Education is directly related to Human Development Index. Shah (2016), Fägerlind and Saha (1989) and Ranis et. Al. (2000) are a few studies out innumerable studies that have established that there is a strong positive relationship between investment in education and national development. Countries with higher levels of education tend to experience greater economic growth, social progress, and overall human well-being. To emphasise the correlation between role of education, hence educators, on overall prosperity of human individuals, the statistics from OECD 2020 report on Education at a Glance 2020 is shown in Table 1 . Th Table 1 shows the positive relation between country-wise Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for tertiary education and the Human Development Index (HDI) of the same countries.

Table 1.
