Abstract

The commercialization of indigenous Knowledge-based Businesses in South Africa is a crucial step towards economic empowerment and cultural heritage preservation. The government plays a crucial role in facilitating this process, providing financial support, capacity-building programs, and market access through government-led partnerships. However, challenges such as bureaucratic inefficiencies, limited awareness of government programs, and inadequate infrastructure hinder the full realisation of these opportunities. The tension between modern commercialisation demands and the preservation of traditional practices also complicates the process. The study underscores the need for more robust, culturally sensitive, and inclusive strategies to support indigenous businesses in South Africa.
