Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) heralds a new era of technological advancements that fundamentally alter how societies function, particularly in the realm of knowledge preservation and documentation. This study explores the application of 4IR technologies in the digital preservation and documentation of indigenous knowledge. Indigenous knowledge systems, rich in cultural heritage and traditional practices, face the risk of erosion due to globalization and technological dominance. Leveraging 4IR technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics presents a promising solution to this challenge. This study aims to examine how these technologies can be effectively utilized to safeguard and perpetuate indigenous knowledge for future generations. This chapter concludes by emphasizing the transformative potential of 4IR technologies in preserving and documenting IK.
