Abstract

This chapter presents trauma-informed pedagogies of co-constructed care (TIPCC) as a framework for teacher education course design and implementation. Blending trauma-informed practices recommended by SAMHSA, restorative principles, and a focus on building positive classroom communities, TIPCC fosters learning environments where diverse teacher candidates feel welcomed and supported in achieving individual and collaborative success. The chapter outlines U.S. educators' guidance on responsiveness to learner needs, reviews evolving conceptualizations of care, and contextualizes these in education. TIPCC addresses course planning, policies, content selection, and teaching actions. The chapter offers key elements, guiding questions, and examples of strategies to help educators create customized, collaborative approaches tailored to their teacher education contexts.
