Abstract

This chapter explains the social phenomenon of begging online on TikTok in Indonesia. This study used the perspectives of social pathology, value conflict, and labeling as analytical tools to understand these phenomena. From the perspective of social pathology, online begging must be stopped, and the perpetrator must be punished. The value conflict perspective states that online begging is a social problem because of the value differences between different groups of people, content creators, and content viewers. The labeling perspective views online beggars as a social problem when society or the government labels them. This study shows that the solution to overcome online beggars is to redefine and not stigmatize or punish them, but instead make them aware not to engage in online begging activities.
