Abstract

Discrimination against women is as old as mankind. From early human records, whether in the family, business, religious and cultural settings, women have endured enormous discrimination. The access to education and removal of impediments against the progress of women led to enhanced entry of women into paid employment, their gradual integration and prosperity in diverse spheres and recognition that access to decent jobs is key to maximizing women abilities. The pervasive realization is that unfettered enjoyment of socio-economic rights by women is central to building thriving societies, families and nations. Yet, despite great progress at work and array of policies, and laws to advance women workers' rights, discrimination against women at work is still widespread globally. Today's woman worker still faces discrimination in hiring, progression, training, dignity and treatment at work which further encumbers their progress and hinders the quest for gender equality. This paper examines the practical aspects of varied discrimination women encounter at work
