What is The Shadow Economy

All market-based legal production of goods and services that are deliberately concealed from public authorities in order to avoid: 1) payment of income, value added or other taxes; 2) social security contributions; 3) certain legal labor market standards, such as minimum wages, maximum working hours, safety standards, etc.; and 4) certain administrative obligations, such as completing statistical questionnaires or other administrative forms (Schneider, 2012, p. 6).
