Abstract
Multi-agent systems have been importantly contributing to the development of the theory and the practice of complex distributed systems and, in particular, they have shown the potential to meet critical needs in high-speed, mission-critical, content-rich, and distributed information applications where mutual interdependencies, dynamic environments, uncertainty, and sophisticated control play a role. Multi-agent systems can be considered a suitable technology for the realization of applications for providing e-health services where the use of loosely coupled and heterogeneous components, the dynamic and distributed management of data, and the remote collaboration among users are often the most relevant requirements.

Using Rule-Based Concepts as Foundation for Higher-Level Agent Architectures
Although a great variety of definitions of the term ‘software agent’ exists (Franklin and Graesser 1997), a widely accepted definition is given by Jennings and Wooldridge (1998, p. 4): “an agent is a computer system situated in some environment, and that is capable of autonomous action in this environment in order to meet its design objectives”.

Social Software in Customer Relationship Management: A Study Exemplified in Instant Messaging Networking
A piece of software that has a certain aspect of agency. In Personal Agents, the agent’s agency comes from the agent behavior on behalf of the user. In Intelligent Agent, it comes from the autonomy of the agent behaving on its own. However, in Mobile Agents, it is originated in the agent’s mobility which grants it a sort of separation.
