The International Journal of Applied Research on Smart Surveillance Technologies and Society (IJARSSTS) publishes cutting-edge research on current trends, methods, and applications of surveillance and monitoring technologies, and security systems for societal protection, public welfare, and government intelligence, while also addressing the impacts and ethical issues caused by these strategies, including privacy violations. The journal combines multiple disciplines—including engineering, medicine, biology, and computer science—to solve complex problems. Mission and Scope

The mission of the International Journal of Applied Research on Smart Surveillance Technologies and Society (IJARSSTS) is to encourage understanding and discourse on surveillance and monitoring technologies as they are applied broadly within society. This multi-disciplinary journal publishes research on theoretical, clinical, and practical achievements in the fields of security, computer engineering, assistive technologies, smart surveillance systems, bioengineering, and medicine. The goal of the journal is to show how these disciplines benefit each other, especially when interpreting, analyzing, and connecting processes, activities, mechanisms, and components that contribute to the quality of life.

Editor(s)-in-Chief Biography

Nikolaos Bourbakis received his BS degree in mathematics from the National University of Athens, Athens, Greece, and his Ph.D. in computer science and computer engineering, from the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, University of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 1983. He currently is a Distinguished Professor in Informatics & Technology and the Director of the Assistive Technologies Research Center (ATRC) at Wright State University, OH. He is a Visiting Research Professor at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. Previous Academic positions: Associate Dean for Research, Director of the Information Technology Research Institute (ATRC) at Wright State University, Associate Director of the Center on Intelligent Systems, Director of the Image-Video-Vision & Applied AI Research Lab, Professor of Electrical Engineering with joint appointment to the Computer Science Department at SUNY-Binghamton, Professor and Lab Director at Technical University of Crete, Greece, and Assistant Professor at GMU. He has published more than 360 articles in refereed international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings, and 10 books as an author, co-author or editor. He is the founder and the EIC of the International Journal on AI Tools, the Editor in Charge of a research series of books in AI (WS Publisher), the founder and general chair of several international IEEE computer society conferences, symposia and workshops. He is or was an Associate Editor in several IEEE and international journals, and a guest editor in 18 special issues in IEEE and international journals related to his research interests. He is an IEEE Fellow, a Distinguished IEEE Computer Society Speaker, an NSF University Research Programs Evaluator, an IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Member, President of the BAI Society, an External Evaluator in University Promotion Committees, an Official Nominator of the National Academy of Achievements for Computer Science Programs, and a keynote speaker in several international conferences. He is also listed in many organizations (Who's Who in Engineering, in Science, in Education, in Intellectuals, in Computer Engineering, AMWS, List of Distinguished Editors, etc.). His research work has been internationally recognized and has won several prestigious awards.
Konstantina S. Nikita (M’96–SM’00) received the Diploma in electrical engineering (1986) and the Ph.D. degree (1990) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. She then received the M.D. degree (1993) from the Medical School, University of Athens, Greece. From 1990 to 1996, she worked as a Researcher at the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, NTUA. In 1996, she joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA, as an Assistant Professor, and since 2005 she serves as a Professor, at the same School. Her current research interests include biological effects and medical applications of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, medical imaging, biomedical signal and image processing and analysis, biomedical informatics, simulation of physiological systems. Dr. Nikita has authored or co-authored 160 papers in refereed international journals and chapters in books, and over 280 papers in international conference proceedings. She is author or co-author of two books (Simulation of Physiological Systems, Medical Imaging Systems) in Greek and co-editor of one book (Computational Electromagnetics: State of the Art and Future Trends) in English published by Springer. She holds two patents. She has been the technical manager of several European and National Research and Development projects in the field of biomedical engineering. She has been honorary chair/ chair/member of the program/organizing committee of more than 70 international conferences on the same fields (IEEE-IST, IEEE-BIBE, IEEE-ITAB, ICST-Mobihealth etc). She has served as keynote/invited speaker at several international conferences, symposia and workshops organized by NATO, WHO, ICNIRP, IEEE, URSI, COMCON, PIERS etc. She is member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering and guest editor of several international journals on biomedical engineering subjects (IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics, IOP Measurement Science and Technology, etc). She has been the adviser of twenty completed Ph.D. theses, several of which have received various awards. She has served as external evaluator in numerous university promotion committees and in international and national committees for grant proposal applications. Dr. Nikita has received various honors/awards, among which, the prestigious Bodossakis Foundation Academic Prize for exceptional achievements in “Theory and Applications of Information Technology in Medicine” (2003). She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center, a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission and a member of the National Council of Research and Technology. Dr. Nikita is a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and a member of the Athens Medical Association. She is also the founding chair and ambassador of the IEEE-Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, Greece chapter, vice chair of the IEEE Greece Section and deputy head of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA.

INTERESTED AUTHORS MUST CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at PRIOR TO SUBMISSION. All article submissions will be forwarded to at least 3 members of the Editorial Review Board of the journal for double-blind, peer review. Final decision regarding acceptance/revision/rejection will be based on the reviews received from the reviewers. All submissions must be forwarded electronically.
