Serendipity has become a desirable quality in designing recommender systems and user interfaces, hence offering a new measurement for system quality. At the same time, recognizing serendipitous experiences and determining their value is difficult due to their subjective nature. This review builds on 10 studies of user interfaces facilitating serendipity studies and attempts to understand the patterns that guide relevant user interface designs in recent recommender systems. This study furthers our understanding of turning the elusive experience of serendipity into more actionable user interface designs and patterns. The key findings are as follows. First, user controls and visualizations have facilitated serendipity, but studies of recommender systems have not gained considerable attention. Second, frameworks instrumental for user-interface-facilitated serendipity have not gained the researcher's worthy attention. Third, developing countries need to explore serendipity-facilitating recommender systems with more diverse users and more prominent test cases.

The current study investigated several innovations for drone technology adoption in journalistic expeditions for intelligence and news gathering purposes. The necessity to leverage technologies to improve the direct involvement of eyewitnesses especially in violence-prone areas where physical and direct human involvement would be impossible or with high risk of survivability expectations is the motivating factor that directed the current research. The paper surveys the adoption of autonomous sensing drone systems in internet of things journalism and amalgamated the theoretic ingredients from the academic standpoint with realistic technological advancements from the global perspective and eventually expanded the propositions for conceivable adoption in the credible societal applications. The paper envisioned the future journalism and mass media practices and how drone innovation can revolutionize the journalism profession for the purpose of news and intelligence gathering with practical and technical realism with reduction of journalistic casualties.

The paper investigated insights of telecommuting practices and trends in the digital transformation. Critical objectives were to find the priorities behind telecommuting developments, examine disruption technologies and trends to transform and advance virtual teleworking practices, determine sustainable strategies and programmes for telecommuting arrangements, and explore lessons learned for future prospects from remote working practices. Teleworking practices have opened and expanded economies and business opportunities in organizations worldwide. Trending digital innovations advancing telecommuting in the knowledge economy include internet of things, enterprise mobility, cloud solutions, and blockchain. Robust technological infrastructure, management, communication, and cultural trust are among the top strategies for sustaining telecommuting programmes. In the post-COVID-19 world, telecommuting is fundamental and mandatory, and therefore, leaders, people, organizations, professionals, and communities have a lot to gain from the practice.

Virtual teams are gaining importance because they have given organisations and employees the ability to work from anywhere in the world without relocating them. The ability to work remotely and collaborate virtually has allowed organisations to expand their reach and tap into a global talent pool. Additionally, COVID-19 has resulted in seeking alternative work arrangements, including the information technology (IT) industry. However, virtual teams also have challenges that can affect team efficiency and effectiveness. Factors such as knowledge sharing, trust, language and cultural differences, distance, and time zone differences can all impact virtual team performance. This research describes several important factors that affect global virtual team efficiency, especially in IT projects, and underlying solutions are addressed to reduce the barriers. By understanding the challenges and implementing effective solutions, organisations can leverage the benefits of virtual teams.

This study examined the role of social media in activating civic engagement and political participation among Nigerian citizens by age. It used a substantial secondary data set from the Afrobarometer Index (N=45,823 from 34 African countries; N=1,600 respondents across Nigeria) to examine the relationship between getting news via social media, and how it predicted civic engagement and political participation. Consuming news on social media significantly predicted civic engagement with family and neighbors and increased political participation from contacting a government official to joining a political party to voting. Young Nigerians were the most likely to get news via social media but the least likely to vote.

In recent years, road safety is getting more attention to reduce road pedestrian accidents caused by vehicles. The research community is trying to find new techniques related to accident avoidance in the existing vehicle driver assistance systems. These techniques involve the exchange of safety critical information between pedestrians and vehicles. This is called vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) communication system, which provides road safety and management to different Vulnerable-Road-Users (VRUs). Furthermore, V2P communication systems use various technologies and different methods to cooperate with the VRUs. These attributes can be considered to design constraints for V2P communication system. In this paper, the authors examine V2P safety aspects and have simulated different V2P scenarios considering real environments. Moreover, the authors analyze the V2P safety in different scenarios by considering the timely exchange of safety messages. The authors presented these results in different V2P approaches for separate VRU groups in different pre-crash situations.
