Dr. Abel Usoro Honored at Book Launch Party for "Leveraging Developing Economies with the Use of Information Technology"

By IGI Global on Apr 25, 2013
Dr. Abel UsoroProfessor Abel Usoro, the lead editor of the IGI Global publication, Leveraging Developing Economies with the Use of Information Technology, was honored at a book launch party on Wednesday, May 1st, at the University of the West of Scotland’s Academic Forum at its Paisley Campus location.

Despite the fact that no aspect of business in developed economies can be discussed today without acknowledging the role of information and communication technologies, a shortage of studies still exist on how ICT can help developing economies.

This publication, co-edited by Dr. Usoro with Dr. Grzegorz Majewski, also of UWS, Dr. Princely Ifinedo of Cape Breton University, Canada, and Iwara Arikpo, University of Calabar, Nigeria, addresses this issue by bringing together key research papers on the subject of ICT and developing nations. This essential resource of 18 chapters brings together ideas, views, and perspectives from 25 international researchers to help a variety of stakeholders including government officials, business professionals, and other individuals worldwide when considering the use of ICT for socioeconomic progress in the developing world.

Leveraging Developing Economies with the Use of Information Technology: Trends and ToolsCommenting on the book, Dr. Usoro, who is a member of the British Computing Society, said: "I am delighted at the event at UWS. I hope that the book will become an important reference document for anyone interested in this area, especially those working in government, wishing to drive forward progress in developing economies through the use of ICT. The book also contains interesting research patterns for scholars and students."

Several guests from developing economies attended, and the launch party included a presentation by Professor Malcolm Crowe, who served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the book project. "I am very grateful to the Royal Society of Edinburgh who sponsored my attendance at the International Conference on Information Technology and Economic Development (CITED), which I organized and chaired in Africa in 2008. I am also very thankful to Carnegie Trust who sponsored my research visit there the following year and in 2010 another research visit to Bangkok University, Thailand. These visits facilitated my building of collaboration with the researchers in developing economies who have contributed to the book."

The Academic Forum, convened by Professor John Struthers of the Business School, is a regular internal event that enables the sharing of research and other scholarly interests among academics in the University of the West of Scotland. The May event will focus on Academic Leadership.
