Amazon Workers Walk Out in the Middle of Shifts on Amazon Prime Day

By Author Relations Team on Aug 1, 2019
amazonIn the wake of the international event Amazon Prime Day, thousands of workers at Amazon fulfillment centers and warehouses around the globe went on strike to protest their working conditions, which are reported to include extreme quotas, limited bathroom breaks, mandatory holiday shifts, and long hours. According to a Quartz article, “one undercover writer said they witnessed co-workers urinating in bottles to avoid missing quotas by taking bathroom breaks.”

Rippling across the United States, Germany, the UK, Spain, and Poland, Amazon quickly defended themselves stating that the protesters are spreading misinformation, as Amazon is focused on providing industry-leading pay, benefits, and a safe workplace environment. Additionally, to assist their workers, they are investing in more automated warehouses, which include robots and conveyor belts that bring workers goods.

In light of these protests, companies and businesses across various industries are facing similar plights. To help strengthen policies and provide solutions, IGI Global continually publishes the latest research on human resources and management.
