This index can also determine which patients will need more care because of the severity of illness. In the third work, Clinical Data Mining for Physician Decision Making and Investigating Health Outcomes: Methods for Prediction and Analysis, Dr. Patricia Cerrito works with Dr. John Cerrito to examine how healthcare databases can be used to make decisions about patients based on the data of other patients. This reference gives a thorough look into how researchers may begin processing medical database information. Clinical trials can be helpful for certain types of medical research, but the pair discusses how data analysis can assist in particular cases when clinical trials do not provide enough information. Preprocessing constitutes a major part of the data analysis, and this area is covered more fully than in many other previous texts.
