International academic publisher joins libraries and partners at annual conferences

IGI Global Around Asia: IGI Global Presented Library-Focused Initiatives at BIBF and IFLA Conferences

By Sharlene Oong on Sep 7, 2018
Recently, IGI Global attended the 25th Beijing International Book Fair in Beijing, China and the 84th IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. IGI Global was honored to be part of these large and substantial events in Asia. Asia, specifically China, is becoming one of the main players in the publishing industry, and IGI Global is proud to remain partners with prominent distributors, institutions, and industry-leading researchers to disseminate emerging research to the wider academic community.

The international academic publisher had a pleasant time connecting with global partners on their new 2019 initiatives. This is the ninth year IGI has attended BIBF. Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, President and CEO of IGI Global, Nick Newcomer, Marketing Manager, and Josh Witman, Business Manager, represented the international academic publisher. During the trip, IGI Global representatives connected with five prominent book distributors including: China International Book Trading Corporation (CIBTC), China National Publications Import and Export Group (CNPIEC), China National Sci-Tech Information Import and Export Corporation, Beijing Zhongke, and China Educational Publications Import & Export Corporation (CEPIEC). IGI Global was also pleased to meet with global partners, including; iGroup and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI).

One of the notable events during the trip, included Dr. Khosrow-Pour signing an iResearch agreement with CEPIEC. iResearch is the leading provider of online audience measurement and consumer insights in China. Through the signing of this agreement, all of IGI Global’s content will be made available through the platform and can be easily integrated into institutions across China. Additionally, IGI Global’s InfoSci®-Databases are available through IGI Global’s Asian partners, which provide rich and innovative content spanning 11 core subject areas including business, computer science, education, engineering, and social sciences. These databases include InfoSci®-Books, a collection of 4,500+ e-books offered as low as US$ 8,580*, and InfoSci®-Journals, a collection of 175+ e-journals offered as low as US$ 5,100*. With a simple and transparent pricing structure and key features such as full-text PDF and HTML format, no DRM, unlimited simultaneous users, these databases provide innovative content at a fraction of the list price.

One of the notable Chinese consortia that have taken advantage of IGI Global’s databases is the Chinese National Science and Technology Library (NSTL). Since 2008, with the collaboration of iGroup, over 850 prestigious Chinese institutions within NSTL have had access to over 175 IGI Global journals in InfoSci®-Journals. With NSTL’s renewal of this content for the 2019 copyright year, the consortia is taking advantage of IGI Global’s new Open Access Fee Waiver initiative to provide more accessible open access publishing opportunities to its members and expands the availability of Open Access content to the nation.

As part of this program, for any library that invests in an IGI Global journal database, IGI Global will match the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go toward subsidizing the open access article processing charge (APC) for their students, faculty, and staff at that institution when their work is submitted and accepted under open access into an IGI Global journal housed within that collection.** Consortia and institutions worldwide can take advantage of this program by investing in InfoSci-Journals. IGI Global is honored to have attended BIBF and IFLA, and looks forward to participating in more conferences all over the world that commit to innovative academic work.
