IGI Global Attends the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas

By IGI Global Scientific Publishing on Jul 22, 2014
Nearly 19,000 librarians, library workers, and library supporters from around the world joined in the shared endeavor of “Transforming our libraries, ourselves” at the 2014 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas Nevada, from Friday, June 27th to Monday, June 30th. Attendees took part in 2,700 programs, sessions, events, and presentations discussing the latest products and services available to librarians. Offering opportunities to meet, greet, and share ideas among librarians, teachers, vendors, and publishers, ALA Annual expands networks, builds knowledge, and strengthens the profession of librarianship.

IGI Global is a proud supporter of and exhibitor with the American Library Association. Each year, IGI Global offers a $100 Visa Gift Card drawing for attendees who visit the IGI Global booth during the conference. This year’s winner of the ALA Annual 2014 Visa Gift Card drawing is Karen Hendrick, a librarian from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Congratulations Karen!

IGI Global ALA Annual Wrap-Up In addition to the Visa gift card drawing, IGI Global hosted informative presentations on various issues affecting librarians in the field. This year’s conference guest speaker presentation, “Practical Preparations for the Future of Libraries: Succession Planning and Implementation” featured IGI Global editors Kiyomi Deards, Assistant Professor and Science Librarian with the University Libraries at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA and Gene R. Springs, Business Librarian at The Ohio State University Libraries, USA (pictured right). Their recent IGI Global title, Succession Planning and Implementation in Libraries: Practices and Resources was just released in March of 2014. For more information about their presentations and publications, check out the previous ALA post, Join IGI Global at ALA Annual 2014 in Las Vegas, NV, Booth #1235.

IGI Global ALA Annual Wrap-Up Conferences are also a great chance for IGI Global staff to connect with authors. Pictured left with Lindsay Johnston, IGI Global’s Managing Director, is author Ida Priyanto, from the University of North Texas, USA. His chapter, “Philanthropy, Partnerships, and Corporate Social Responsibility in Academic Libraries: The Case of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia”, co-authored with Dr. Safirotu Khoir from the University of South Australia, Australia, appears in the recent IGI Global title, Library and Information Science Research in Asia-Oceania: Theory and Practice, which released in February 2014 and is edited by Dr. Jia Tina Du, University of South Australia, Australia, Dr. Qinghua Zhu, Nanjing University, China, and Professor Andy Koronios, University of South Australia, Australia.

Information about IGI Global databases was readily available in the booth (#1235), in addition to the in-booth book and journal display. In the viewing area, a narrated, looping video informed conference attendees of IGI Global’s recent content expansion into the previously untapped areas of social science, topics in business and management without an IT focus, clinical medicine, chemistry, public policy, environmental science, communications, linguistics, the humanities, etc. – all in addition to our more traditional focus on IT-related topics. Thanks to all conference attendees for stopping by the booth. We’re looking forward to seeing all at ALA Midwinter.
