Review Full Choice Review
This book provides a multidisciplinary view ofthe evaluation and extraction of information from big data problems. Each chapter stands on its own and speaks to both domain and application knowledge within computer science and other fields, providing a detailed literature review, problem statement, and a sufficient but not overwhelming technical overview ofthe given problem. Forreaders working within specific knowledge domains, such as transportation planning and engineering, medical imagery, journalism, or public policy, the introduction provides a general foundation on big data, while each chapter provides a context-specific overview of a particular computer science application. This volume can lead such readers to further study oridentify opportunities forinterdisciplinary collaboration they may pursue. Forreaders with computer science background, these same chapters provide real-world examples oftheir discipline in action, offering engaging topics for class discussion or possible future research. Some chapters, especially those thatfocus on treatment of specific types of dataset or analysis—Twitter analysis, the internet ofthings (IoT), edge computing, and dimensionality reduction—are sufficiently technicalto supportreplication ofthe illustrated method across disciplines by well-informed readers.
