Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of E-Planning Research (IJEPR) Dr. Carlos Nunes Silva shares the success of the 2019 IJEPR Annual Conference.

Dr. Carlos Nunes Silva Explains Increasing Submissions and Citation Rate of the International Journal of E-Planning Research (IJEPR) Through his Fourth Annual IJEPR Conference

By IGI Global on Jun 17, 2019
ijepr Following three successful International Journal of E-Planning Research (IJEPR) Annual Conferences, the 4th International Conference on Urban e-Planning was held at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning in the University of Lisbon, Portugal, on April 23-24, 2019. Convened by Dr. Carlos Nunes Silva, Editor-in-Chief of IGI Global’s International Journal of E-Planning Research (IJEPR), this conference consisted of 13 sessions, which ignited lively debates and discussions regarding the emerging and rapidly changing field of urban e-planning among participants and attendees.

Additionally, the Conference was endorsed by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), a non-governmental organization who are comprised of planners and other stakeholders involved in the development and maintenance of the built environment, and by the International Geographical Union (IGU) Commission on Geography of Governance, an international, non-governmental, professional organization devoted to the development of the discipline of Geography.

“The main goal of the IJEPR Annual Conference is to provide a multi- and an inter-disciplinary forum for the critical discussion of new perspectives, approaches, methods, and tools in the field of urban e-planning,” says Dr. Silva. “The IJEPR Annual Conference aims to explore and to discuss recent developments, emerging issues, and future challenges in the field of urban e-planning across the world.”

The conference was organized around the following themes:
  • Theme 1 - Governance and Planning of Smart Cities
  • Theme 2 - Citizens e-Participation in Urban Planning
  • Theme 3 - The Real and Virtual in Urban e-Planning
  • Theme 4 - Data Analytics and New Decision Support Tools for Urban e-Planning

Participants were required to present a paper at the conference. And, as Dr. Silva refers, "The delegates ( i.e. researchers, students, and planners from academia and other organizations who work mainly in the field of urban and planning studies) travelled from 23 countries throughout Europe, Africa (North and Sub-Saharan), North and South America, and Asia.”

A selection of these papers is expected to be published in an upcoming issue of IJEPR in 2020 as they outline the latest developments within this field. The mission of the International Journal of E-Planning Research (IJEPR) is to provide scholars, researchers, students, and urban and regional planning practitioners with analytical and theoretically-informed empirical research on e-planning, as well as evidence on best-practices of e-planning, in both urban and regional planning fields. The journal aims to establish itself as a reference for information on e-planning issues and is committed to provide a forum for an international exchange of ideas on urban e-planning research and practice.

Due to the journal’s comprehensive and high-quality content (as it is published under a double-blind peer-review process certified by the Committee on Publication Ethics), it has been accepted into prestigious indices, most notably Web of Science® – Emerging Sources Citation Index®, Scopus®, Compendex®, INSPEC®, and more. We invite researchers to submit their articles to IJEPR and join IGI Global’s expanding network of highly referenced, highly cited researchers and authors.

“We plan to continue in 2020 the exploration of new perspectives, approaches, methods, and tools in the field of urban e-planning, with a concentration perhaps on issues of citizen e-participation", says Dr. Silva. “The next IJEPR Annual Conference [scheduled for 2020] will also continue to be a place for informal networking in the broad field of urban e-planning.”
