Dr. Nilanjan Dey In support of the accomplished researchers and faculty members associated with IGI Global publications, IGI Global has implemented the Outstanding Scholars Program. This program honors editors and authors of outstanding merit, encouraging discoverability and connecting researchers with the greater global community. We are pleased to continue this series by recognizing Dr. Nilanjan Dey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology at the Techno India College of Technology, Rajarhat, Kolkata, India. Here, Dr. Dey speaks on his experience in academic publishing.
IGI Global: Tell us about yourself. How did you become involved with IGI Global?

Dr. Nilanjan Dey: I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology at Techno India College of Technology, Rajarhat, Kolkata, India. I also hold an honorary position of Visiting Scientist at Global Biomedical Technologies Inc. in California, USA, and Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Applied Mathematical Modeling in Human Physiology, Territorial Organization of Scientific and Engineering Unions, Bulgaria. I am an Associate Researcher of Laboratoire RIADI, University of Manouba, Tunisia. I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence, the International Journal of Rough Sets and Data Analysis and the International Journal of Synthetic Emotions. Furthermore, I am Editor of the Advances in Geospatial Technologies (AGT) Book Series; Executive Editor of International Journal of Image Mining (IJIM), Inderscience; Regional Editor-Asia of International Journal of Intelligent Engineering Informatics (IJIEI), Inderscience, and Associate Editor of International Journal of Service Science, Management, Engineering, and Technology. My research interests include: Medical Imaging, Soft Computing, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Rough Sets, Mathematical Modeling and Computer Simulation, Modeling of Biomedical Systems, Robotics and Systems, Information Hiding, Security, Computer Aided Diagnosis, Atherosclerosis. I have 15 books and 200 international conferences and journal papers. I am a life member of IE, UACEE, ISOC, and more. See my Research Gate Profile here.

My research association with IGI Global has several levels; mainly I am involved with IGI Global as Editor-in-Chief of three journals, namely: International Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence, International Journal of Rough Sets and Data Analysis, and the International Journal of Synthetic Emotions (Co-editor). In addition, I am involved as a member of the International Advisory Board of several other IGI Journals, including the International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking, International Journal of Healthcare Information Systems and Informatics, International Journal of Applied Metaheuristic Computing, and International Journal of Information and Communication Technology Education.

Furthermore, I firmly believe that the sharing of research experience is an important issue, thus I also maintain roles on the Editorial Review Board of the International Journal of System Dynamics Applications, and as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Service Science, Management, Engineering, and Technology and the International Journal of Virtual and Augmented Reality.

I also enjoy being a reader and Editor for IGI Global books as well. I have edited 4 titles, with one forthcoming:

I have faith in the saying: "Science is a magnificent journey that one has to live in with the cooperation of others." This idea pushes me to pursue additional outlets for research. I have organized 5 special issues as a guest editor of IGI Global journals. These special issues are namely: "Medical Image Mining for Computer-Aided Diagnosis", International Journal of Rough Sets and Data Analysis; “Recent Advances in Machine Vision, Image Processing and Pattern Analysis”, International Journal of System Dynamics Applications; “Information Processing from Social Networking Big Data”, International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking; “Big Data in Medical Data Analysis and Health Informatics”, International Journal of Healthcare Information Systems and Informatics; and “Global Information Technology: Wheel to be Successful in this Fast Changing Technology Oriented Market”, Journal of Global Information Management. In addition, I have published several manuscripts under several IGI journals.

Why do you choose IGI Global as your publisher?

During my association with IGI Global, I found that the support, guidance and co-operation of the professional IGI team, not only with me as an Editor, but with authors as well, is a considerable milestone for IGI Global's repute. In addition, the extensive facilities of the online systems aid in the management of submitted papers and assist during the review process to gain high quality publications. IGI Global offers a number of value-added electronic resources.

How do you achieve success in regards to your publication? How do you increase the chances for positive reviews and indexing?

I have published over 200 works (34 ISI Indexed, 110 Scopus Indexed) in journals, conferences and books. Efficient productivity is not an accident. It is always the outcome of a commitment to intelligent planning, excellence, and focused efforts. Thus, as an Editor, in order to increase the chances for positive reviews and indexing, I get use of my wide international researchers’ network to direct them and collect high quality contributions. In addition, I have invited and included international professors and researchers in the editorial board and the editorial advisory board of the journals under my editorship to ensure timely and high quality publications. In addition, I am always providing the authors with extensive and continuous guidelines. Furthermore, I check for plagiarism in all submitted papers to ensure originality.

What do you require from your title contributors to maintain and build your publication’s reputation?

Before I ask my contributors any processes or requirements, I ensure that I am giving them my time and efforts for guidance, handling difficulties, solving conflicts, and supporting them both academically and/or during the required submission and review processes. High quality knowledge creation and sharing should be the contributors’ inspiration. Originality, novelty, and accuracy are the main required factors that must be guaranteed by the contributors.

How can other researchers maximize the exposure and increase the likelihood of indexing for their publications? What resources are required?

In order to increase the exposure and indexing for any research, it must be up-to-date, and the researchers must share their insights with other researchers, attend international conferences, organize workshops, and continuously (daily) read high-quality published work. In addition, the required resources includes i) guidelines in order to increase the chance for acceptance and introduce valuable work, ii) plagiarism checker to ensure the minimum similarity, and iii) native English people to revise the manuscripts grammatically.

Do you execute personal promotions to support your publications? What specifically?

Yes, I do. First, I ensure the publication is comprised of outstanding strong research work. I promote my publications by citing them through Research Gate, Facebook, and all research media to alert or interact with other researchers. Moreover, I have a wide network of international researchers whom I inform about my publications.
