Behind any credible scholarly publishing process is the vital double-blind peer review, backed by highly qualified experts in their respective fields. Whether an open access or subscription-based publication, vetting research is incredibly important to ensure accuracy and integrity. Having a peer review process that is both timely and rigorous helps ensure that research can be disseminated in the highest quality and swiftest manner possible, critical in times where research becomes dated quite quickly.

Individuals appointed as peer reviewers to book and journal publications are performing an incredibly important and valuable job. Peer reviewers are conducting a professional service for their colleagues to improve the quality of their work and the availability of advanced research in the field at large. A robust peer review and revision process ensures that manuscript authors are set up produce the best version of their work.
Peer review by multiple reviewers also prevents things like data fabrication or any potential bias.
Review processes have multiple layers, and each segment of a review board performs a different layer of peer review and serve in different capacities. For instance, someone serving in a Managing Editor capacity or in an Associate Editor capacity would be preforming a higher level of review and advising than someone who is serving as a member of the Editorial Review Board.
To become a peer reviewer for an academic journal, typically a reviewer application is requested. For IGI Global, interested reviewers can
complete an application. Newly appointed reviewers will serve in an ad hoc capacity until they have demonstrated timely and thorough peer reviews, at which point they would be promoted. As peer reviewers work to evaluate manuscripts for journals, they will be asked to respond to the following criteria:
Evaluation Criteria:
- Originality and Significance of Contribution Is the manuscript in congruence with the mission of the journal?
- Interest to Research Community and/or Practitioners How useful is the material to the field?
- International Relevance
- Coverage of Existing Literature Does the literature review contain relevant information in support of the article?
- Satisfactoriness of Methodology, Analysis, and Comprehension Does the article contain a detailed explanation of research methods and procedures?
- Clear, Concise, and Jargon-Free Writing Does the article clearly state the issues being addressed?
- Organizational Structure Is the article clearly organized in a logical fashion? Are the author’s conclusions supported by
the research?
Similar criteria are utilized for the peer review of IGI Global book publications as well, and it is common for the chapter contributors in edited book publications to perform double-blind peer reviews of each other’s work, or the double-blind peer reviews may be performed by an appointed Editorial Advisory Board for the book. Authored book publications are sent to an Editorial Advisory board for full evaluation.
