Latest Adoptable IT Studies ShowCASE Security Issues

By IGI Global on Jul 13, 2010
The Journal of Cases on Information Technology (JCIT) boasts numerous IT case studies usable for course adoption found in one easy-to-access platform. In the latest issue, all four cases presented focus on the development and implementation of an example of information technology advancement, each focusing on security issues associated with the end-user's experience. In "Development of Trust During Large Scale System Implementation," author Bjarne Schlichter, Aarhus University, Denmark, discusses the transition of a region's health sector to an IT-based system. "A critical factor in implementations is trust in the system, trust in the project and trust between the various stakeholders," explains Schlicter ( https://www.igi-global.comBookstore/Article.aspx?TitleId=42965). Trust factors persisted to be recurring problems throughout the process, and Schlichter explains the challenges faced and solutions created, as the Faroe Islands (a part of Denmark) Ministry of Health and Social Affairs worked to implement an integrated health information system. The implementation of an improved information security infrastructure is the focus the second article, "Challenges of Information Security Management in a Research and Development Software Services Company: Case of WirelessComSoft." Author Varadharajan Sridhar, Sasken Communication Technologies, looks at the wireless communication software company, detailing its attempts to maintain high functionality of its worldwide sites and communications with global clients, while implementing improved and updated security measures. Sridhar explains, "…implementing information security across its different world-wide sites, updating it in tune with evolving user needs, deploying robust business continuity architecture, and maintaining logical and physical isolation of clients' off-shore development centers were challenges that WirelessComSoft's security implementation team grappled with every day."

"Case studies are tremendous sources of solutions, knowledge, ideas, innovations, and lessons related to utilization and management of information systems in organizations," --Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, Editor-in-Chief, JCIT

The last two cases presented in the latest issue of JCIT both focus on web-based businesses. Information privacy is a common topic mentioned by both articles, as well as other customer-focused concerns. "Development of a Web Based Business Oriented Towards a Market Niche in an Emerging Economy: Profightstore.Com," by Mirjana Pejic-Bach and Blazenka Knezevic, both of the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and Miran Pejic-Bach, Dux Sport, Croatia, tells the story of Profightstore.com, an online store that sells sporting equipment to combat fighters. Marketing for this very specialized internet business is explained in most of this case, but the E-Commerce facets of the case open up security issues, as they are inevitably important in the development of any web-based company. The other Internet business article is entitled, "An E-Titan's Evolving Strategy and Business Model: Striving for Success in Challenging Times." The authors, Zhongxian Wang, James Yao, Yanli Zhang (all from Montclair State University), and Jeffrey Hsu, (of Fairleigh Dickinson University, USA) discuss the successes of an online marketplace, "eMarketMatch," and its strategies for building an online-commerce empire. Security issues such as trust and privacy, through customer interactions with other customers and payment structures, are examined through the look at the growth of this online auction site. "Case studies are tremendous sources of solutions, knowledge, ideas, innovations, and lessons related to utilization and management of information systems in organizations," says Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, Editor-in-Chief of JCIT. The latest release, Volume 12, Issue 2 (April-June 2010), upholds this tradition of informative, organizational exploration, through these four articles featured. JCIT
