Technology Innovation Spotlight: UNITED KINGDOM

The United Kingdom, comprised of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is located off the northwestern coast of Europe. It is bordered by Ireland, the Atlantic Ocean, Celtic Sea, Irish Sea, North Sea and English Channel. The UK is known for the London Eye, which is the world's largest Ferris wheel and a popular tourist attraction. This region is also known for the Tower of London, Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. The capital of the UK is London, and the population is approximately 63,182,000.

The British excel in innovation and discovery in science and technology. Some of their significant inventions include the World Wide Web, television, steam locomotive, theory of evolution, telephone and the English language. In addition, most popular sports such as football, cricket, rugby and tennis were all derived from the British.

As a leader in innovation, IGI Global also works closely with consortia in the UK, including Eduserv, a consortia group which provides personalized IT solutions to organizations, universities and research councils in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Chest Agreement provides universities and colleges online resources for their institutional needs.
