IGI Global is providing a sustainable OA opportunity to the researcher community

How to Turn Your University Library Into a Source of Open Access (OA) Funding

By IGI Global Author Relations Team on Feb 26, 2019
Traditionally, publishers use Open Access (OA) article processing charges (APC) to recoup the large investment that they provide for all phases of publishing including the acquisition of the project, contracting, development of the publication, and most importantly, the peer review process. Due to the high cost of the publishing process, many publishers have set high APC charges to recoup the cost. Thus, making it nearly impossible for researchers to attain a quality OA publishing option without receiving grant funding.

To ensure that researchers have a credible publishing outlet for their work and in support of the OA movement, IGI Global has launched a new OA Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative. Under this initiative, for any library that invests in IGI Global's renowned aggregated databases, the InfoSci®-Books and/or InfoSci®-Journals database, we will match the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go toward subsidizing the OA article processing charges (APCs) for their students, faculty, and staff at their institution when their work is submitted and accepted (following the peer review process) under OA into any IGI Global journal. In other words, if your library is subscribed to either one of these databases, IGI Global will waive the OA processing fee, the APCs, and publish your accepted journal article on an OA basis with no charge to you.

IGI Global’s InfoSci-Books and InfoSci-Journals databases are invaluable tools, offering access to our full databases of 4,500+ reference books and 185+ scholarly journals respectively, which of course includes your contributions. Each database is powered by the state-of-the-art InfoSci® platform, which offers advanced search features including: full-text HTML and PDF viewing options, unlimited simultaneous users, no DRM, no embargo of content (research is available months in advance of print release), full publication downloads, RefWorks, EasyBib, spell-check and auto-complete search suggestions, and a multi-lingual user interface, and many more research-friendly features. Prestigious institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Princeton University, Syracuse University, the University of Michigan, and the University of California Irvine are currently utilizing InfoSci®-Databases to support their faculty’s teaching and research initiatives.

Not only will the researchers receive a higher visibility and citation impact for their research, but their institution will have access to the timeliest, peer-reviewed research that span across 350+ topic areas in 11 core subject areas including:

  • Business and Management
  • Computer Science and IT
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Environment and Agriculture
  • Government and Law
  • Library and Information Science
  • Media and Communications
  • Medicine and Healthcare
  • Security and Forensics
  • Social Sciences and Humanities

This initiative comes at a pivotal time as publishers, librarians, and researchers are working together to address the challenges and opportunities presented within the OA movement. To take advantage of IGI Global’s OA Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative, recommend InfoSci-Books database or InfoSci-Journals database to your institution’s library.
