IGI Global maintains a double-blind peer review process to ensure accuracy, quality, and fairness

Why Use the Double-Blind Peer Review Process?

By Emily Mistishen on Sep 10, 2018
Peer review is something that is inseparable to the scholarly publishing process. Without high-quality evaluation of research, published works can lose credibility and accuracy, which affects the researcher behind the work. In today’s digital age, where information can be shared instantly and come from anyone, properly vetting academic work is more important than ever. Programs like SCIgen, a parody computer program that randomly generates gibberish computer science research papers, prove not only how easy it is to create bogus academic papers, but also reveal lax peer review standards that exist in some of today’s academic organizations. While the peer review process can come in many forms, IGI Global utilizes the double-blind peer review process to ensure the research contained within a publication is accurate, precise, and not computer-generated.

The basic level of the peer review process is the evaluation of professional work by others working in the same field. Double-blind review, IGI Global’s specific style of peer review, conceals the identity of both the author/editor of a work and the reviewer examining it. The anonymity helps ensure fairness and removes any possible chances of bias. IGI Global’s peer review process occurs over 12 to 16 weeks and takes place on the eEditorial Discovery® System.

IGI Global maintains high-quality standards at the core of their peer review process, ensuring that the research contained in their publications is credible and accurate. The eEditorial Discovery System allows the review process to maintain IGI Global’s standards, but also makes it accessible for authors, editors, and reviewers to keep track of a manuscript’s development and makes the process smoother.

As part of upholding peer review standards, IGI Global is participating in the Fourth Peer Review Week as an international outreach committee member with various events planned, including a webinar and social media updates.
