Will Social Networking Survive?

By IGI Global on Sep 28, 2010
Social networking has redefined the way in which people communicate and connect to each other around the world. As an article on PCWorld pointed out, "Social networking services expand the pool of people we have the opportunity to meet to near limitless possibilities. We're no longer restricted to or rely on people in our neighborhood, church, or workplace to provide the interaction we desire."

Thanks to social networking, people are able to stay in constant communication, sharing up to the moment information. A memorable moment in history first appeared on various social networking sites before it even made headlines in the news. Many may recall the famous plane crash in the Hudson River, but what some of you may not know is that pictures of the survivors climbing onto the wings first appeared on Flickr, Tumblr, and TwitPic. Adrianne Jeffries at ReadWriteWeb stated, "Twitter is increasingly about news, content and information in an easily-digestible format. By delivering real-time updates curated by individuals and publishers of your choosing, Twitter ended up in the same space as RSS readers and social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us. And people liked Twitter better." Because of social networking sites like Twitter, people are now absorbing news faster than it appears in the newspaper or on television.

But how long do you think social networking will be around? Take a look at the videos below and see if you agree...

Are you sharing any of this on Twitter, Facebook, or any other social networking site yet?
