Behind the Scenes with the Editor of Post-Holocaust Studies of Modern Day Context

Do You Have What it Takes to Edit an Academic Publication?: An IGI Global Interview with Dr. Cohen

By IGI Global on Aug 27, 2018
Currently working as a Senior-Lecturer and the Chairman of the Department of Middle Eastern and Political Science Studies, and the Chair of the Middle East & Central Asia Research Center (MECARC) at Ariel University in Israel, Dr. Ronen Cohen is no stranger to writing and editing research. He has edited multiple publications throughout his research career, including IGI Global’s recently released reference, Post-Holocaust Studies in a Modern Context. The new reference source, co-edited with his colleagues Nitza Davidovitch and Eyal Lewin, who are also affiliated with Ariel University, examines the impact of post-Holocaust effects on current social issues across the globe such as the Western approach to immigration and the shaping and reshaping of national ethos across the globe.

IGI Global was pleased to conduct a brief interview with the highly esteemed editor before his upcoming travels in hopes of gaining a better understanding of his research… This is what we found:

What are the challenges of editing a research publication?

The mission of an editor is quite irrational and tough.. doing it in groups of editors could be considered as craziness. However, when each of the triangle side knows exactly what he should do, so, it would be like an orchestra when every part plays its own music. Since this particular issue is extremely complicated, and has many faces and dimensions, so each editor deals with some parts as to maximize the benefit of the contributors.

Did IGI Global do an effective job in supporting you during the publishing process?

I must admit that I was working less with the publisher, but when it comes to uploading files and to solving problems in real-time, the IGI Global team was there to escort us in every step and mission. As someone who works a lot with publishers, this is the real blessing of IGI Global and it says a lot about their professional attitude and respect for the mission.

Please describe one “fun” fact about yourself.

As someone who takes himself very seriously, I have a special hobby of building airplanes kits. It sounds childish, yet, I never saw someone under the age of 18 who builds that stuff... as you need tons of patience and concentration... when I want to relax and to clear my head- I just build a World War 2 jet.

Ronen Cohen is a Senior-Lecturer and the Chairman of the Department of Middle Eastern and Political Science Studies, and the Chair of the Middle East & Central Asia Research Center (MECARC) at Ariel University in Israel. Dr. Cohen is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Interdisciplinary Middle Eastern Studies. Dr. Cohen mainly focuses in his research on Iranian Studies and regional politics. He has published several monographs and edited books among numerous academic articles among commentary articles and has occasionally been interviewed on radio shows and in newspapers.
IGI Global is thankful for the opportunity to work with Dr. Ronen Cohen, and we look forward to future collaborations that will result in the publication of vital content of his co-edited book, Post-Holocaust Studies in a Modern Context. We would like to thank Dr. Cohen for helping IGI Global cultivate and disseminate emerging concepts and theories on the impact of post-Holocaust effects on current social issues across the globe.
