Prof. Rouzbehani shares her insights on research trends she identified in her field.

For better or worse, technology can undoubtedly be considered as one of the most pervasive revolutions in history, because its applications are virtually limitless. One sector in which major advances have been made, and are still being made, thanks to technology is healthcare. As part of its commitment to make scholarly content available to the academic community, IGI Global conducted an editor Q&A, designed to highlight some emerging concepts and theories in healthcare. Prof. Khadijeh Rouzbehani from the University of Victoria, Canada, and co-editor of the book Social, Economic, and Political Perspectives on Public Health Policy-Making, recently took the time to respond to a few questions about her current and future research endeavors, as well as trends in her field.

What inspired you to pursue research activities in your research area?

What inspires me the most is the ability to address public issues. In conducting research, the researcher can understand and define some aspects of the problem and propose solutions to finally increase the level of awareness and the quality of life of individuals.

Why are your respective areas of research important to the field at large?

Public Administration and policy making is a multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary field. Health policy, as a subdivision of this field, defines a vision for the future which in turn helps to establish targets and points of reference for the short and medium terms. It ultimately aims at providing direction towards improvement and sustainability of the health status of people.

In your opinion, what are some of the benefits of your research to its community of users?

It can provide important information about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, functional abilities, patterns of care, and health care costs and use. The different approaches to research provide complementary insights. Clinical trials can provide important information about the efficacy and adverse effects of medical interventions and theoretical ones can contribute to the development of policy.

What are the future directions of your research areas?

I’m going to focus on cross-sector health problems to come up with right models to address wicked problems. Besides, as there is a new trend of migration due to climate change, I’m going to focus on the health aspects associated with this new phenomenon.

global diversity
What are some other evolving research trends you have observed in your industry/field over the past several months and what would you say are some of the innovative research directions you foresee in the future? How do you feel your publication sets the pace for these innovations?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Health, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) ,and different types of cancer have been among the new trends in health policy. I’m going to use AI in order to impact our end-users and ultimately bring health reforms to their lives.

What has your experience been like publishing with IGI Global?

It’s been great. I’ve been editing books, publishing book chapters and journal articles and have enjoyed IGI Global’s support, high quality and timely feedback.

IGI Global is grateful for the opportunity to work with Prof. Rouzbehani and we look forward to seeing more collaboration that will result in the publication of invaluable content like her book, Social, Economic, and Political Perspectives on Public Health Policy-Making. We would like to thank Prof. Rouzbehani and her co-editor Prof. Rahmatollah Gholipour for helping IGI Global cultivate and disseminate emerging concepts and theories in Medicine and Healthcare.
