Abstract

The protection and valorisation of built heritage, informed by the evolution of the very concept of heritage, has garnered a growing attention from specialists, public entities, and the general population. In so far that its importance grows so does the concept of inventory expands. The authors go beyond morphological or typological issues to focus on materials and construction techniques as well as on social and economic values. Bearing in mind the principles that should be honoured and the need of reliable and readily available information, they consider the development of a heritage information system. In its creation and development, they made use of the most advanced information and communication technologies available. They present an actual case and showcase the potential of the heritage information and of heritage itself as significant elements of a sustainable development strategy.
