Abstract

The study examined emergencies in the school system for early childhood and process of teachers and schools' responses in the face of emergencies. It examined the sort of landmarks that are nearer to school premises in the study areas. It also examined the forms of facilities and equipment that are available in schools in the study areas; assessed the cases of emergency experienced in schools; investigated the actions taken by teachers working with early childhood in emergency situations and assessed the measures of emergency management suggested by the teachers in the study areas. These were with a view to providing information on the emergency situations around pupils and measures that may be undertaken to manage emergencies for the safety of pupils in the educational settings. The study adopted descriptive research design with school administrators/directors and teachers as the population. The sample was 76 administrators/directors and teachers for early childhood from Nigeria and Israel, only those who responded to an online Google questionnaire. The instrument used was an online Google questionnaire sent to educators using different professional and practitioners' platforms. The instrument tagged, ‘School Emergency and Management Process Scale (SEMPS)'. It examined emergency occasions in schools and how they were managed or would have been managed or otherwise and these were grouped into six sections in the form. Data were analysed using percentage, pie and bar charts to explain the research questions in the study. The finding showed a diversified picture on all variables. In some of them the tendencies between the two countries are similar and in others they differ. Recommendations were proffered for teachers and school administrators. The study further can be useful in the preparation of emergency management policy plans for schools in both countries and elsewhere.
