Abstract

Infectious diseases are a major global burden according to the latest WHO reports. The problems of drug resistance, emergence, and reemergence cases are rising when treatment is given by conventional therapy. These therapeutic insufficiencies lead to treatment failure. Nanomaterials are a class of carrier systems that offer some desirable properties to combat the aforementioned problems related to the treatment of infectious diseases. They offer better targetability and better bioavailability than conventional systems. Thus, they are being explored to their full potential in the treatment of infectious diseases. The use of metallic nanoparticles, carbon dots, are a major area where research is being carried out to mark them as effective carriers. This book chapter gives an insight to various nanomaterials which are widely used and explored for the treatment of various diseases along with the safety and regulatory aspects of nanomaterials.
