Call for Chapters

Proposals Submission Deadline: March 20, 2018
Full Chapters Due: April 10, 2018
Submission Date: July 15, 2018

Nowadays, various medical and technological organizations (mostly ICT) are working on the development of "unconventional" solutions such as therapy and assistance for people with behavioral problems. In particular, autism, down syndrome, alzheimer's disease, anxiety, phobias, learning difficulites etc. Different organizations have been involved in the study and realization of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions to be used as therapy and support for this kind of disabilities. Previous researches and experiments showed that it is possible to double or even quadruple the level of concentration in children treated with these tools. The history of these methodologies is still "young", consequently it is not possible to state the durability of these therapies, for this reason it is necessary to proceed with a large-scale experimentation; there exists a need for an edited collection of original research in this area.

This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical research findings in the area. It will be written for professionals and educators who want to improve their understanding of the strategic role of virtual and augmented reality treatments in mental health.

Target Audience

The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals, medical staff, educators and researchers working in the field of information technology, education and medicine, e.g. mental health, rehabilitation, library, information and communication sciences, education, adult education, sociology, computer science, and information technology. Moreover, the book will provide insights and support professionals concerned with mental health treatments and / or teaching students with special needs etc.
