According to IDC, enterprise architecture is currently used by 46% of global corporations. Placing the automation enterprise architecture in the cloud is responsible for the work from anywhere operating model that has weathered the Covid crisis. In the near future, 90% of global corporations are expected to use enterprise architecture. Enterprise architecture is useful to all professions, at all its stages of digital maturity. Business process management shapes the actual workflows in product lifecycle management, customer relationship management, supply chain management, finance, human resources, with the support of information technology professionals. Today, business process management unites technologies with functional standards by standard setting bodies. IDC structures the digital transformation market into 220 use cases on functional basis, which are programs with defined goals, activities, technology solutions and value impact. All professions change. The empirical data about the future of enterprise architecture shows the change. Overall, digital transformation will impact enterprise architecture strongly: Industry 4.0 readiness is the integration of information technologies PLM, CAD, FEM, ERP/SCM, MES, BDE, CRM, CAQ that shape today's enterprise architecture. As digital capabilities connectivity, visibility, transparency, predictive capacity, adaptability are added, enterprise architecture supports event driven decisions, autonomous actions, adaptive processes. Software AG envisions Industry 4.0 with business models at the core, new business processes, and customer experience technologies that complement existing technologies. Acatech, IDC, Gartner, SAP, Siemens argue the goal of digital transformation is the agile intelligent enterprise, capable to initiate and face disruptive innovation. Digital transformation is to progress to disruptive innovation performed by market players, and empirical data will show the change of industries, businesses, professions. Enterprise architecture is at the core of contemporary business process management , the core of digital transformation and the goal of digital transformation. The topic is difficult, interdisciplinary, and yet to be researched at all stages with strong theoretical and empirical impact.


The goal of this book is to research enterprise architecture at all stages of digital maturity. Objectives are to research functional and cross-functional technologies and processes at all stages of digital maturity. Another objective is to investigate the current enterprise architecture, with current business processes and operating model, from a quantitative perspective, showing standards of excellence. Further objectives refer to the enterprise architecture of the future in different scenarios: Acatech, Internet of Things platform integrated solutions, RAMI 4.0. An aim of the book is to update theory with empirical data. Another aim is to support all professions in using current enterprise architecture and becoming aware of the digitally transformed future. The book also aims to support businesses with research about digital transformation.

Target Audience

This takes the core of management consulting into scientific management literature. A qualitative or quantitative approach may be taken to the current digital maturity of enterprise architecture, revealing already mature automated business processes placed in the cloud. Future stages of enterprise architecture are already available on the market, disruptive, and impactful to the theory and practice of all professions.

  • Submission Procedure

    Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 29, 2022, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by April 12, 2022 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by July 1, 2022, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
